MISSION STATEMENT OF METRO BLAZESPORTS

Metro BlazeSports ®  is an affiliation of Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State (CP of NYS) and BlazeSports ® , a renowned national disability sports organization affiliated with the US Paralympics. Its purpose is to promote the development of opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in inclusive sports fitness activities and healthy lifestyles. Several of its founding affiliated athletes, both using wheelchairs have competed in the past several NYC Marathons and one 26 has completed in total, including the more recent Boston Marathon. Because physical activity is essential to achieve and maintain positive health status across our lifespan, “ Michelle Obama’s Lets Move initiative is founded on this principle by engaging young people in activities that may prevent future health problems and address issues such as obesity and diabetes. Little League Baseball, Pop Warner Football and other similar organizations are built upon the principles of engaging in organized physical activities at a young age. People with disabling and chronic health conditions experience significant barriers that prevent them from participating in regular physical activities, especially organized sports. One goal of Metro BlazeSports is to promote ways of overcoming these barriers.
